Pep Guardiola Commits to Man City with Contract Extension

Pep Guardiola has agreed to a one-year contract extension with Manchester City, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2026.

The deal, which includes an option to extend his stay until 2027, provides a significant boost to the English Premier League (EPL) champions as they navigate a challenging 2024/25 season.

The 53-year-old Spaniard has been with Man City since 2016, establishing himself as the most successful manager in the club’s history. Under his leadership, the Citizens have claimed 18 major trophies, including six EPL titles – four of them consecutively – and their first-ever UEFA Champions League crown in 2023.

Guardiola’s decision to stay comes amid growing speculation about his future and City’s off-pitch challenges, including over 100 EPL charges related to financial misconduct. The club denies the allegations, and Guardiola has expressed confidence in the process.

Despite enduring his worst managerial losing streak with four consecutive defeats, Guardiola remains determined to steer his men back to success.

Speaking after their 4-1 loss to Sporting CP on 5 November, he remained optimistic: “It will be a tough season … but this is what it is. I like it, I love it, I want to face it and lift my players and try it.”

The Citizens currently sit second on the EPL table, five points behind Liverpool’s 28 points. Guardiola’s crew will next face Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, 23 November.
